How do you make a LEGO bridge?
Answer:
First of all, It’s best to decide what kind of bridge you want to make. You might want to have a bridge that lifts up or a suspension bridge. Perhaps look on the internet for some inspiration or insight into how the bridge stays up, this is what designers in LEGO Creator will do before starting to build.
It’s important to make sure that the 2 ends of the bridges (the towers) are rigid and strong. The larger the foundations (the very bottom of the towers), the more stable your bridge. The easiest way to span the bridge (over a river, for example) and link the two towers is to use plates connected together – these plates make up your road. Depending on the distance between the towers these plate might sag in the middle. Here you could run string from the tops of the towers to the center of the bridge to support the plates – then you have made a suspension bridge.
A lifting bridge is a little harder. The two towers must be extremely rigid as each one holds half the bridge independently. The bridge itself also needs to be stronger using bricks to give it more thickness so it doesn’t sag. On the tower there needs to be an area where the bridge pivots and you may need to think about a counter weight for the bridge. If you need help with this have a look at the alternate model for the LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel (box 4957).
Good Luck!
How do you come up with the final design for a finished Creator product?
Answer:
Once we have an idea of what type of LEGO Creator product you guys would like to play with we start the process of building lots and lots of concept models with all sorts of wild styles and crazy functions. We then show these to kids from all over the world to see which they think is the coolest. LEGO Creator is all about having the most enjoyment from building and so the next step is to really make that model as fun to build for you guys as possible, making sure that the functions are all strong enough and stand up to rigorous testing. Once the final design is complete, we sit down with other design engineers from all over the company and build through the model together. This ensures that your model has no mistakes and it can withstand anything you can throw at it – your little sister doesn’t count, it is LEGO after all!!

Do you draw what you are going to build or do you just get the idea?
Answer:
In Creator, we get a lot of inspiration for our products from real life examples. Because our main product themes are vehicles, creatures, and houses we often look at images on the internet and then create a mood board. A mood board can show features, functions of the example, or detailing and styling. Using these mood boards for reference and inspiration we generally start building from bricks straight away. Once we have the first sketch model built it is then easy to communicate how the model will look and what changes it may need for the next development loop. Sketches are sometimes used when we want to show something specific but with a 3D model, it is much quicker and easier to communicate our ideas.
Does including motors make models more difficult to design?
Answer:
When you add functions to your model, it always makes the design process more difficult. With motors and functions in you model you have to make a lot of test, so you now that your model is working 100%. This takes time, so the design process is also longer for a model that includes a motor.
Does LEGO stand for something, or was it just randomly chosen?
